Samsung Innov8 Event

Written by WishBoNe on October 3, 2008 – 10:00 am

I got myself an impromptu slot to attend the event at Samsung in Vivocity. All thanks to DK and Rinaz who both helped to extend the invitation to me :D

It’s Samsung’s first blogger event and I must say, I was impressed because there was free food like, pizza, salad, drinks and my favourite, Ruffles chips! After the dinner, Daniel from Samsung started off the event formally. Next up was the quick overview of Samsung Innov8 and its functions. I love the 8 mega-pixels, smile and blink detection. These features for capturing beautiful smiles and all opened eyes are not available in most cameras. I know even my beloved Canon S5 IS doesn’t have them either. Shucks!

The phone shown on the slide.

The hunt for photos that are inspired by Innov8.

The event was fun as I got to know that Rinaz had a great concept for the inspiration and she won the phone. I think it was a little bit weird that all 3 winners were girls. How come I didn’t win? I also girl!

I hope to be able to attend more of the events by Samsung and get chances to trial run the gadgets. I have Omnia, so I qualify! (Shameless self-promotion).

On a side note, I was really honoured that Nadnut (who also won the Innov8) lent me her Pinky for photo taking. Unfortunately, I was printing the photos and there really wasn’t enough time for more photoshoots after that.

Samsung Omnia Personal Thoughts

After using the Samsung Omnia for more than a week, I can safely say that I love it. I love the slimness and its sleek looks. I like the auto brightening of the display based on the surrounding lighting. I am use the auto function. So far, it seems to work fairly. I’m not a good gauge at the display.

I like the way Samsung built in the keyboards. They are not too tiny like the default keyboards that comes with Windows Mobile. I can press the keys using my finger and that is why I dislike iPhone despite its sleekness :D

Windows Mobile 6.1 has threaded messages and it makes it so much easier to continue the SMS if you key in halfway and have to answer someone else. I don’t have to save the message and read the message that I was trying to reply too. Unfortunately, deleting a message also means deleting the whole thread and you can’t save just one message from the same person.

I tried the mass sending of SMS and sent blank messages instead. I don’t know if that’s what it was supposed to do but I wasted a few good long SMS that way. Thus, I won’t be attempting the stunt except using the email. The volume is quite good but the vibration is a wee bit too weak. Perhaps it’s the size.

Overall, I love it a lot because I can take quite decent photos with the 5MP camera. The dim lighting will cause the photos to go dark but when I tried using the flash, the photos turned out too white. Looks like my S5 IS is a better option for such condition.

There is a slight lag despite turning off the Samsung Widget programme. I feel that the processor speed is alright but the RAM should be increased since it doesn’t seem to match the processor speed.

I still haven’t used the Wifi because the last time I connect to Wireless@SG, I didn’t manage to surf the net except the error page.

Touching the iPhone

Written by WishBoNe on July 25, 2008 – 11:06 pm

Cropped version of :Image:IPhone_Release_-_Sea...Image via Wikipedia

I was honoured to be sent a personalised email from Blog2u.sg about their iPhone viewing session. At least they changed to display my name instead of just saying:

“Hi,

Blog2u.sg is holding an iPhone viewing session at bla bla”

I think that was part of the reason why I went to my 1st bloggers session. I was late but I did managed to catch Paddy talking about how they were wanted to give Blog2u members an iPhone each. I like the idea. Unfortunately, being a staff is better since they can’t give out to every blogger.

After that, DK was supposed to bring up the climax of the iPhone 3G to everyone’s anticipation. He needs more practice. I have managed to molest/touch the iPhone, thanks to Blog2u’s exclusive invitation.

After playing with the iPhone, I feel that it really isn’t for me. I have long fingernails and I love my Samsung Omnia more. iPhone may looks sleek and sexy but I for one, won’t be queuing up to buy it but I don’t mind if I am given one for free

Why You Should Use easySafe

Written by WishBoNe on June 18, 2008 – 11:28 am

I use a laptop and I store quite a number of data in it. It’s my precious. With today’s mobile technology getting more robust; free Wifi being offered at Starbucks, McDonald’s and more, it isn’t a wonder to see laptops being setup in those places.

To protect my data, Fast N Safe has a new product, easySafe that will protect the data. This is a hardware based cryptography product. Software tends to be decrypted more easily as we can see from websites that have experienced such cases.

easySafe

For the mobile warriors, data such as clients’ and company’s information is very important. The loss will mean the integrity and the confidence level of the clients are affected badly. It is important to know that your laptop is safe from being compromised when someone steals it or lost.

easySafe and laptop

Installation of easySafe is easy as you just plug it into the USB drive that can be found in the laptops or computers. easySafe will create a virtual storage space to store the sensitive and confidential data. This is transparent to the users and will not affect the user in anyway.

Hardware security is safer because without the easySafe, anyone else attempting to pry their eyes to look for the data will be disappointed as the data is encrypted and can only be decrypted by easySafe itself. easySafe is portable and it takes up not much space as most thumb drives these days are getting smaller too.

easySafe and hand

With easySafe, you can travel with a peace of mind.

easySafe can be purchased at the following places.

  • E2000 shop at Funan #05-02.
  • Tec-Drome Technology at Sim Lim Square #05-78 and #06-74.
  • IMM Challenger L2-49.

Which PDA Phone?

Written by WishBoNe on June 2, 2008 – 10:03 am

It is truly time for a replacement PDA phone. However, I’m still unable to decide which one to get despite the various choices of sexy PDAs available. Take the long wait for Sony Ericsson Xperia X1. The news for HTC Touch Diamond just came out too. It’s another piece of artwork by HTC.

HTC Diamond is so sexy that it reminds me of the coveted iPhone. The Asus Lamborghini ZX1 oozes with sleek form design too. Toshiba is known for producing laptops and desktops but this time, they want to let the world know that their Portege is also good enough to work as a PDA phone. See Toshiba Portege G810.

I’m thinking of HTC Touch Diamond, Asus Lamborghini ZX1 and MWg Zinc II. The problem? The first two are not launch yet. Was thinking of SE X1 but it’s a long wait. I just wonder if I would be able to afford the change. PDA phones are still expensive to buy.

Replacement List

Written by WishBoNe on March 17, 2008 – 2:21 pm

Did I mention that I’m on the hunt for a replacement? I now have a few replacements in mind. Besides iPhone. It’s always a good idea to have a list of items for such purchase. I don’t want to end up with the wrong mobile and end up complaining too many times.

i-Mate Ultimate 9502 - PDF Specification list, Ubergizmo review

E-Ten Glofiish M810 - CNet Asia Specification, Gatzet quick preview

Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 - CNet Asia

I’m a little curious about MWg Zinc II as it’s a successor to XDA Zinc. It does look a little like iPhone. Anyone has something to recommend for PDA phones?

Number Portability has Not Been Processed?

Written by WishBoNe on March 5, 2008 – 2:47 pm

I wonder what’s going on. Since the year 2000 that IDA announced that we would be enjoying number portability in the 4th quarter of 2007, I haven’t seen any announcement that it has been successfully implemented.

For more than 7 years, the project has been going on with some progress. However, the fixed deadline is so flexible that until March 2008, there still isn’t any news on number portability for consumers.

Did this project die? Or was it canceled quietly? So, what exactly is going on?

New Replacement for Dopod 838Pro

Written by WishBoNe on February 20, 2008 – 2:06 pm

It seems that Dopod 838Pro is telling me something. It’s near its end. The battery has been giving me some problems such as dying off even after a full charge and faint screen at odd times. For a second hand, it’s a miracle that it has survived for nearly 2 years.

I’m eying that Sony Ericsson X1. Although FoxTwo has a bone or two to pick with its products.

Gadgets Technology Blog

All these provide a sneak of what I’m hoping for. Just wondering when it’s going to be sold in Singapore. Any ideas?
