Omnia Replacement Search
Written by WishBoNe on February 4, 2010 – 6:43 pmApparently, mobile phones these days can’t really last till your contract ends or even longer. My Omnia is screaming overwork ever since I started making full use of the data plan. Opera Mobile 9 gave me problems with logins after a few weeks, so I decided to install Opera Mobile 10 Beta to test it out. It worked beautifully until just a day later that the processor is unable to take the heat, literally.
Omnia keeps hanging or lag terribly. I am at my wits just to use basic functions like Plurk, Twitter, Facebook, Gothere and FourSquare! Just surfing using Opera Mobile 10 Beta only! How can do this to me? In addition, IE for mobile is acceptable. Not that I’m complaining but I like to use the keyboard to hit “Enter” and it does nothing. Neither did Opera Mobile 10 Beta react except appear a cursor.
Since it’s nearly 2 years that Omnia has been with me, I have to find a replacement. Unfortunately, Nexus One and HTC HD2 have 1GHz processor with 512RAM. Looks like it’s still quite some time before processors and RAMs can shrink small enough for mobile phones. To think I thought Nano technology was the hot stuff in 1997.
Therefore, I’m uploading photos via mobile and checking road maps for now. There must be a way to have an easier time using Omnia to surf!

Bluetooth Stops Working
Written by WishBoNe on July 30, 2009 – 9:59 pmI am totally stumped. My Asus A8J has stopped being able to use the Bluetooth totally. I am not sure when it stopped working. The hardware devices shows the following.

The driver seems perfectly fine.

Attempts to set the Bluetooth to be discovered led to the following error.

Apparently, the discoverability and connection settings were not saved since the bluetooth seems to be unplugged. Now, the thing is that in Bluetooth Devices, the hardare isn’t even there.

Seriously, I don’t know what happened to the hardware. How can there be a missing bluetooth hardware when it’s all in the devices? Attempts to reinstall the driver has failed due to the system being unable to detect any bluetooth being plugged in. It’s a built-in device, so I am not sure how it can get loose from the system itself.
When recovery doesn’t work, how can this problem to resolved? Anyone has this problem before?

Samung Omnia Connection Problem to Starhub MaxOnline
Written by WishBoNe on February 7, 2009 – 8:00 am
I haven’t been able to connect my Omnia to the Starhub broadband at home. Although I don’t have any problem while connecting to the Wireless@SG. After some discussion with Lycan Times, I will be sifting through the links for the settings here.

Windows Vista Shortcut Keys Rarely Known
Written by WishBoNe on January 17, 2009 – 7:49 pm
- Image via Wikipedia
I have known the following shortcut keys for all the Windows version.
- ALT + F4
- CTRL + A
- CTRL + C
- CTRL + V
- PRT SCR
- NUM LOCK
- CAPS LOCK
Hang on, the last two aren’t exactly shortcut keys. However, Windows has much more shortcut keys to offer than those that I have used frequently.
- Press Shift key 5 times to turn on or off the Sticky keys. No wonder I had this strange prompt the other time I accidentally pressed five times while contemplating the words that I was trying to type.
- ALT + ESC to cycle through the items in the order that they were opened. Wow.
- CTRL + SHIFT + ESC to show the task bar. No wonder I had to go through one more click when I use CTRL + ALT + DEL.
After looking through the MS Help, I realise how little of the shortcut keys I use. Now I know why my mouse died after a year plus, too much clicking.

The 40″ LCD Full HD Sony TV Escapade
Written by WishBoNe on December 24, 2008 – 9:38 amMy father had always wanted a flat screen TV but not this year since money has been tight all thanks to the recession. Unfortunately, the S$2,800+ CRT TV was dying. It had served us faithfully for at least 10 years. Therefore, we had to bid goodbye to the 28″ CRT TV.
I went to Best Denki with my father to check out the prices and flat screen TVs are becoming more affordable to his surprise. It goes to show how much shopping he has done. With so many too choose from, we decided to sit on the decision first. Promotions tend to be given out on weekends.
So, we went back on a weekend, just two days later, to check out the TVs again. This time, we weren’t disappointed. A 40″ Sony Bravia was being sold at S$1,999 including a DVD Home Theatre set worth S$499. Frankly speaking, I wonder if the cost is already included.
There I was walking around the display set contemplating about how much the price would set back my bank account. Eventually, I was sold on the idea of this 40″ flat screen after thinking about the contrast ratio between the 32″ Hitachi. They were both on par but the home theatre system add-on felt better than just a TV set.
The delivery was set to 23 Dec 2008 as my father wasn’t available on 22 Dec. Thus, the delivery guy called me at 11.15am to announce the arrival that they would be coming in 45 minutes.
45 minutes later after my father had completed the shifting of the heavy 28″ CRT, the guys were not seen. At 12.20pm, we finally heard the sound of the truck from Best Denki. Soon, the TV arrived. The setup was quick since flat screens are way lighter than CRT. The guy helped us to tune the TV since the Starhub box gave out worse than pirated DVDs images.
I was utterly destroyed. I thought the problem was resolved months back. After the guy left, my father was anxious to resolve the issue. I wasn’t satisified and decided to try the Starhub box as the tuning showed a wavy Channel 8. Like magic, the images from Starhub box was showing up nicely. That was after I called and heard the Starhub voicemail that we had to wait for 20 minutes for the images to stablise since they had upgraded their system.
It sounds like upgrades from Starhub feels suspiciously like upgrades form Windows. You need to restart your system after each upgrade. EH?!
This experience has given me some headaches.
- The free gifts were not received as Sony keeps the stock in their storeroom at Funan IT Mall.
- When a problem was seen, the technician guy was anxious to leave as soon as I signed the DO. Well, I can’t blame him totally since it wasn’t the TV problem.
- I prefer that all free gifts that are given in any promotions to be received at the same time of the delivery. You mean, the delivery truck can’t even keep the boxes there? I have to spend more transportation money just to get them?!
- Customers don’t like to be cheated of free gifts. Especially when delivery is given, customers expect the transaction to be completed at that point. That’s what the money paid is for.

I Hate Vista
Written by WishBoNe on October 23, 2008 – 12:58 pmHaving used Vista for some time with the current Asus Laptop, I have always hated it when it prompts me to enter a password for the admin to install a programme or even run Woopra. I am the admin for heaven’s sake! I have logged in as the admin!
While the Aero theme will eat up more resources and memory, I am quite fine with the rest of the functions even when I don’t use them much. It’s been a long while since I have burned any DVDs or CDs since the transferring of files via file sharing websites have been widespread.
The other problem is that despite the years spent in improving Windows, a restart is always needed after updating the system’s OS. This is a total waste of time. Why must the updates require restarting?
Why must there always be updates and even sneaky background updates to Vista? People have workarounds. They end up not updating the OS because the updates are seriously irritatingly too often.
I don’t use most of the functions provided and yet these are the functions that are required to be updated often. They waste my connection time and even Asus has its own update that I don’t know until my attempts to shutdown for the day prompts that it is running.
Perhaps I should seriously consider looking into using some other OS that doesn’t make the updates so painful.

Samsung Omnia Personal Thoughts
Written by WishBoNe on August 4, 2008 – 5:33 pmImage via Wikipedia
After using the Samsung Omnia for more than a week, I can safely say that I love it. I love the slimness and its sleek looks. I like the auto brightening of the display based on the surrounding lighting. I am use the auto function. So far, it seems to work fairly. I’m not a good gauge at the display.
I like the way Samsung built in the keyboards. They are not too tiny like the default keyboards that comes with Windows Mobile. I can press the keys using my finger and that is why I dislike iPhone despite its sleekness
Windows Mobile 6.1 has threaded messages and it makes it so much easier to continue the SMS if you key in halfway and have to answer someone else. I don’t have to save the message and read the message that I was trying to reply too. Unfortunately, deleting a message also means deleting the whole thread and you can’t save just one message from the same person.
I tried the mass sending of SMS and sent blank messages instead. I don’t know if that’s what it was supposed to do but I wasted a few good long SMS that way. Thus, I won’t be attempting the stunt except using the email. The volume is quite good but the vibration is a wee bit too weak. Perhaps it’s the size.
Overall, I love it a lot because I can take quite decent photos with the 5MP camera. The dim lighting will cause the photos to go dark but when I tried using the flash, the photos turned out too white. Looks like my S5 IS is a better option for such condition.
There is a slight lag despite turning off the Samsung Widget programme. I feel that the processor speed is alright but the RAM should be increased since it doesn’t seem to match the processor speed.
I still haven’t used the Wifi because the last time I connect to Wireless@SG, I didn’t manage to surf the net except the error page.
