RuffBook Tech - Water Resistant Laptop
Written by WishBoNe on November 23, 2007 – 2:40 pmTo celebrate its 1st blog anniversary, The Thinking Blog is holding a free laptop giveaway and to participate, you just write about it! RuffBook Tech is sponsored by Ruff PC. It’s powered by the ultra low power consumption Intel Core Duo 1.73GHz processor, 512MB DDR RAM, 60GB Shock-mounted Hard Drive, and a CD-RW/DVD+RW (DVD Dual) Drive, this rugged portable is designed to give you reliability in environments where conventional laptops would fail.
In addition, it’s a water resistant laptop. Now, you don’t have to worry about spilling that water, not that you would want to anyway.

Hunt for PDA Phone Replacement
Written by WishBoNe on November 6, 2007 – 1:27 pmI’m on the hunt for a replacement for my Dopod 838Pro. It’s dying.
Right now, my list consists of E-Ten Glofiish M800, i-mate Ultimate 9502 (but it doesn’t seems to be available in the future here), Samsung Ultra Smart F700 (no WLAN for this though), HTC P6500 (no QWERTY keyboard) and HTC S730 (no touch screen, smartphone).
I like the design of HTC S730 but the screen is smaller compared to E-Ten Glofiish. While I like the sleek design of Ultra Smart F700, it lacks the capabilities of Wifi. Now I wonder if I will use Wifi since I prefer to read my RSS via a larger screen like a desktop or laptop.
Life can be so difficult to choose. I can’t have everything inside one phone. Why can’t they come out with a DIY version?

Spanking New Laptop
Written by WishBoNe on September 2, 2007 – 11:51 amWent to the Comex show. My expenditure list dwindled to one item and some free items from the purchase. I bought a spanking new Asus A8Js with CrystalShine LCD (whatever shine that is but it does look crystal-shine-like to me). The freebies? An Altec Lansing subwoofer speakers that is still unopened, TV/Radio tuner and a laptop bag.

There’s a free RAM upgrade to 2GB.

Things to Consider for Comex Show
Written by WishBoNe on August 25, 2007 – 7:58 amThe Comex Show is coming again. This time, I have a list yet again. Well, not a long list, besides, I’ve never bought anything much from such shows despite all the freebies.
With the Odex issue, I’m pretty sure subscribers may want to change their ISPs during the show. The issue is being discussed why PacNet did not have to release the names of the subscribers based on the IPs while Singnet and Starhub had to. With the high and mighty attitude by a certain Mr Stephen Sing and MIA Mr Peter Go, some dirt was dug up from their Games Mart Pte Ltd.
My list of stuff to buy or consider.
- A mouse (as long as there is a scroller)
- A laptop (upgrade from my current beloved lappy)
- A PSP Slim (nah, not really)
- A DS Lite (perhaps)
- Change my ISP (I still have a year to go)
Where should I place my money on?

PC Show Too Crowded
Written by WishBoNe on June 1, 2007 – 3:26 pmEvery year, the PC Show would be on for 4 days. I try to go if I remember but with its success, the crowd has been getting horribly big. There is no oxygen to breathe even when I stepped into the entrance. I don’t get any chance to even touch that laptop I have been coverting.
This year, the pull of the show is not as strong as when I first heard of it. The first time I went, it was crowded. Weekends tend to attract more crowds. As the years go by, the crowd grew and the air stunk of bodies.
This year, the show is in a smaller venue. However, as the first day was a public holiday, the crowd was huge, sardine-liked and asthmatic feeling. These were the impressions by those who have gone the the 1st day. I suspect the baby strollers are used purposely to get through the crowd. Shrewd.
Oh, beware of pickpokets. Someone lost his camera. I wonder if I should buy Lenovo 3000 V100 (Consumer version) or Thinkpad X60. For compatibilities’ sake:

Linux Recommendation, Anyone?
Written by WishBoNe on May 16, 2007 – 9:50 amI’m thinking of formating an old laptop into Linux because it’s running on Windows 2000 with 64MB of RAM. The processor is AMD Athlon (I think). It’s running way too slow and I’d like to enable it to run faster with an OS that’s less taxing on the available resources.
I haven’t find out if I an get it to connect to the Internet, may need to buy PCMIA wireless card if it can be formatted. The HDD is partitioned into 3 partitions with 6GB each. I don’t remember why as it wasn’t done by me. Have done a bit of research on the various Linux versions available. I found Ubuntu but it requires 128MB of RAM which I doubt I’m able to buy addition since this laptop is more than 8 (?) years old.
Another version I just found is Puppy Linux which seems to be suitable for the specifications that I have. I like to know if there is any more versions that I can consider besides Puppy Linux. Found a site with users’ experience with VMware. Looks like more research needs to be done.

Outdated
Written by WishBoNe on April 25, 2007 – 10:30 amIt seems that I haven’t been keeping myself updated with the functions that can be done in views for Domino. Domino uses up on my precious RAM and I can’t bear to install trials in my laptop for fiddling purposes during my personal time.
I’m still playing around with the idea of a spare computer to run Domino.
