D-Link DIR-655 Purchase
Written by WishBoNe on August 29, 2008 – 8:20 amI have vowed not to go to any Sitex, IT Show, Comex as the crowd is horrifying. However, I had no choice but to attend the first day of Comex on 28 Aug 2008 because my old D Link was throwing tantrums with constant disconnections.
D Link was having a discount for the 1st 30 customers who buy DIR 655. It was available at $159 only at 6.30pm. The horrors! Thus, I had no choice but to go down. I changed my initial queue time from 6pm to 5.30pm and it was definitely a good idea as I was queue number 13 when they doled out the cards for validity of purchase at the special price.
2 men older than be cut in from behind when we went to the cashier as if they were still afraid that they couldn’t buy the router. Now, I introduce my new router, Xtreme X Gigabit N Router. I stood for an hour for it and wonder how long the first 12 stood. Amazing.
This router is an award winning router. So, I had to buy it. Actually, I was more attracted to the 3 antennas instead of 2 as my old one had only 1. The setup took me 5 minutes and I was connected. I wanted better and stronger wireless connectivity then I realised that my Wifi connection is only up to 100Mbps. This is able to transfer speeds up to 1000Mbps.

Touching the iPhone
Written by WishBoNe on July 25, 2008 – 11:06 pm

I was honoured to be sent a personalised email from Blog2u.sg about their iPhone viewing session. At least they changed to display my name instead of just saying:
“Hi,
Blog2u.sg is holding an iPhone viewing session at bla bla”
I think that was part of the reason why I went to my 1st bloggers session. I was late but I did managed to catch Paddy talking about how they were wanted to give Blog2u members an iPhone each. I like the idea. Unfortunately, being a staff is better since they can’t give out to every blogger.
After that, DK was supposed to bring up the climax of the iPhone 3G to everyone’s anticipation. He needs more practice. I have managed to molest/touch the iPhone, thanks to Blog2u’s exclusive invitation.
After playing with the iPhone, I feel that it really isn’t for me. I have long fingernails and I love my Samsung Omnia more. iPhone may looks sleek and sexy but I for one, won’t be queuing up to buy it but I don’t mind if I am given one for free

Freezing Frames in Starhub Cable Vision
Written by WishBoNe on June 27, 2008 – 2:21 pmMy old Starhub box failed to work just a few days before. So, I had a replacement box that freezes at odd intervals as if the channels are playing pirated DVD. Each and every channel is affected. Thus, it was brought back to Vivocity to get another box.
However, the freezing game continues. What is the problem? I don’t know. I called up Starhub and the guy was very patient; he explained to me that it could be the switch or the cable wires that is causing the problem. I followed the instructions to a T. The first method was to connect directly to the TV channel. It worked beautifully.
Image via Wikipedia
The next was to switch the cables for the box and MaxOnline and see if it works. That failed miserably. In fact, I have absolutely no idea what is the problem. Changing the box is not an option now as the box is working fine. The cables in the walls are working find. Perhaps it’s the switch? I don’t know.
I have lost 4 days of non-TV because of the box supposedly being compatible with every TV despite it being a digital box. However, it seems to fail miserably when connected with MaxOnline. Why am I paying for both if both lines are not compatible?
Don’t tell me I have to upgrade my modem set too. 3 trips to Starhub? Oh my goodness. Someone please explain to me why a new digital box is not compatible with the old modem that was given. Analog or not, the cable wire is the same. The screws are tight.
I don’t like watching any TV channels that freeze every 5 seconds. That’s not I’m paying for more than 10 channels.

Why You Should Use easySafe
Written by WishBoNe on June 18, 2008 – 11:28 amI use a laptop and I store quite a number of data in it. It’s my precious. With today’s mobile technology getting more robust; free Wifi being offered at Starbucks, McDonald’s and more, it isn’t a wonder to see laptops being setup in those places.
To protect my data, Fast N Safe has a new product, easySafe that will protect the data. This is a hardware based cryptography product. Software tends to be decrypted more easily as we can see from websites that have experienced such cases.

For the mobile warriors, data such as clients’ and company’s information is very important. The loss will mean the integrity and the confidence level of the clients are affected badly. It is important to know that your laptop is safe from being compromised when someone steals it or lost.

Installation of easySafe is easy as you just plug it into the USB drive that can be found in the laptops or computers. easySafe will create a virtual storage space to store the sensitive and confidential data. This is transparent to the users and will not affect the user in anyway.
Hardware security is safer because without the easySafe, anyone else attempting to pry their eyes to look for the data will be disappointed as the data is encrypted and can only be decrypted by easySafe itself. easySafe is portable and it takes up not much space as most thumb drives these days are getting smaller too.

With easySafe, you can travel with a peace of mind.
easySafe can be purchased at the following places.
- E2000 shop at Funan #05-02.
- Tec-Drome Technology at Sim Lim Square #05-78 and #06-74.
- IMM Challenger L2-49.

The Perils of Being The One Who Knows IT
Written by WishBoNe on May 3, 2008 – 10:07 amAh, the perils of being the one who knows how to format computers and resolve printer problems at home sure is great, right? For the family, yes. For the one, NO. After facing so many problems at work, do you really think that back at home, the one would even want to resolve any problem? Think again.
The 3 in 1 printer can’t fax anything out or receive anything in. So, what should the one who knows IT do? Shrug. That’s because a fax machine has nothing to do with IT. Either the line is corrupted or the printer needs to be changed. Or maybe the printer’s setting is wrong.
At home, the one has to solve TV problems, virus-ridden laptops, mobile phone problems and anything that has remotely something to do with IT. It isn’t fun when work gets dragged into personal lives too. Able to resolve problem is one thing.
Being the one to be asked to resolve the problems every single time is another thing. Can get a break or not?

Earnings Stopped from Nuffnang for 3 Months
Written by WishBoNe on April 29, 2008 – 3:39 pmWith the earnings from Nuffnang having stopped for 3 months, I believe that my patience has run out. There are no longer any advertisements because I am not an exclusive Glitterati, whatever that means. Thus, my opportunities have dwindled to nil. Thanks, I thought it was a good idea, just like Adsense.
However, I was wrong. Utterly wrong. There is no way I can run a blog or site if I need to depend only on one and only one way of earning my money. This is just like investment, a little diversity is needed as a backup in case one fails. This is the same in concept of having 2 hard disks in a computer too.
You don’t want your main hard disk to fail only to realise that your data has died along with it too. So, I’m getting rid of Nuffnang along with my earnings as I don’t know how long it’ll take me to cash out either. I don’t like the space cluttered with directs only to the Nuffnang website whereby I don’t even get referral points.

Nothing at IT Show
Written by WishBoNe on March 8, 2008 – 2:38 pmFor the 1st time, I wasn’t even keen on going to the IT Show to check out the gadgets. I guess it isn’t as interested as Cebit that often showcases upcoming gadgets for the year. The usual limited space for walking and inconsiderate people attempting to chat up the babes including cashiers do turn me off.
While I won’t declare full avoidance of the IT Show in future, I’ll go if there is something that I want to buy. Not just to go there to browse and get stepped on my tall people who can’t see that there was already a jam in front.
At times like that, laptops and RAMs are good buys. They often sell the older versions of the laptops at cheaper rates.

New Replacement for Dopod 838Pro
Written by WishBoNe on February 20, 2008 – 2:06 pmIt seems that Dopod 838Pro is telling me something. It’s near its end. The battery has been giving me some problems such as dying off even after a full charge and faint screen at odd times. For a second hand, it’s a miracle that it has survived for nearly 2 years.
I’m eying that Sony Ericsson X1. Although FoxTwo has a bone or two to pick with its products.
All these provide a sneak of what I’m hoping for. Just wondering when it’s going to be sold in Singapore. Any ideas?
