I have often dreamed of being an entrepreneur, a rich one, obviously. Why else would I do if I can’t even afford a condominium, car and credit cards if I am not rich, right? I’m getting ahead of myself here. Now, we know that we have a severe lack of entrepreneurs in Singapore. I could be wrong here.

I’m quite proud to present that we now have a Global Entrepreneurship Week from 17 – 23 November 2008. This is organised by ACE and NUS Enterprise. Note that being an entrepreneur doesn’t just mean renting a store and selling stuff in that store.

Now, about the Global Entrepreneurship Week, it is meant to inspire people under the age of 30 to be enterprising, connect young people across national boundaries, mentor the next generation of talents, inform and engage.

Being well-versed in the IT line means you have the advantages too. You can make use of your web designing skills to design an ecommerce site or make use of the available sites that have integrated payment systems so that you don’t have to worry about payment issues. Some of the popular sites are eBay, Etsy, Zazzle, Cafepress and Lulu.

With the technology being more advanced than ever, one can be an entrepreneur with the help of the internet. The rise of using blogs to setup store fronts have been a popular choice for those who lack the financial resources to make use of ecommerce software.

If one truly wants to have an ecommerce software for making one’s site feel more professional and trustworthy online, there are free ecommerce shopping carts available. One such shopping cart would be Paypal.  Each transaction will have admin fees being deducted by Paypal due this service being provided.

Selling products and services online means you now have a global market instead of a local market compared to opening a shop physically. Show off your design skills by selling prints on mugs, t-shirts, caps and more.

Check out the Global Entrepreneurship Week from 17 – 23 November 2008 and maybe you will be inspired to make use of your IT skills to help yourself be an entrepreneur too.
