Earnings Stopped from Nuffnang for 3 Months

Written by WishBoNe on April 29, 2008 – 3:39 pm

With the earnings from Nuffnang having stopped for 3 months, I believe that my patience has run out. There are no longer any advertisements because I am not an exclusive Glitterati, whatever that means. Thus, my opportunities have dwindled to nil. Thanks, I thought it was a good idea, just like Adsense.

However, I was wrong. Utterly wrong. There is no way I can run a blog or site if I need to depend only on one and only one way of earning my money. This is just like investment, a little diversity is needed as a backup in case one fails. This is the same in concept of having 2 hard disks in a computer too.

You don’t want your main hard disk to fail only to realise that your data has died along with it too. So, I’m getting rid of Nuffnang along with my earnings as I don’t know how long it’ll take me to cash out either. I don’t like the space cluttered with directs only to the Nuffnang website whereby I don’t even get referral points.

Donating the IT Way

Written by WishBoNe on April 24, 2008 – 10:08 am

Donation box[via Flickr]

It seems that the net-savvy would like to play a part in helping the needy. Given that Violent Acres is raising funds for West Valley Child Crisis and LLY is also doing the same for every Pong/Nang. It got me thinking if any local charities accept Paypal, the popular e-payment standard adopted by eBay. Even eBay does support charity.

A quick search from Charity Portal reveals that NCSS charities are using credit card donations while Paypal isn’t supported. I’m not sure why but perhaps it could be difficult to monitor the donations via Paypal despite its ease for payment history?

UNICEF supported online donations but due to some technical problems, they have changed to the pen and paper method. With hackers loving to attack hack take over any website, especially if it’s a widely read site, problems do occur.

If donating the IT way is anything to go by, no matter how secure a site is, hackers are bound to make it vulnerable and deterring genuine donators from doing their pay.

Post Without Thinking

Written by WishBoNe on April 21, 2008 – 11:58 am

There are things that can’t and shouldn’t be posted online. The Internet remembers it forever. It’s so easy to get a screenshot as evidence to prove the claims later. Take for example the case of a video posted by this andrewteo77. It got the netizens buzzing with theories and finally condemning him because he was the one spewing self-righteousness but with vulgarities at the taxi driver who was merely waiting for a potential passenger.

Others were saying he was a black sheep for the company. It led to the Internet CSI searching for his personal details, including his LinkedIn.

I’m not saying that I haven’t been failing to keep certain things offline where it should be. Everyone makes mistakes and I’m sure this Andrew Teo, whoever he is, has learnt from his. There are things happening while isolated to a blog aggregator, it doesn’t mean that others won’t be picking them up.

For all I know, Rednano would be picking up localised blogs very soon as long as they are indexed and cached. Soon, world domination by a blog will be seen. This is taken from DK’s refraining phrase.

Making Use of SEO

Written by WishBoNe on April 17, 2008 – 5:31 pm

Getting numerous hits for a site is no mean feat. Let alone this tiny blog of mine. There are many tech-savvy people out there who can insert keywords into their sites and make them stand out.

Injecting keywords is one thing, repeating visitors is another thing. Keywords for a site is called Search Engine Optimisation, also known as SEO. By making your site SEO-friendly, you can be sure your hit counter will be moving up.

With SEO Philippines, you can find sites related to Philippines. It’s sort of like localisation for the country. Just like you can use Google for localised searches. In Philippines, you would have to use words related to the country itself. For a travel blog in Philippines, words such as Manila, Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, Caraga, Baguio City are bound to lead you to the blog.

Pagerank and Alexa rankings play a part. Being indexed is also important to get your site up in the 1st page of the search results and SEO is used in this case. Make use of SEO Philippines, it will go a long way when building a niche for traveling in Philippines.

How to Write a Resume?

Written by WishBoNe on April 15, 2008 – 2:08 pm

The net is a popular choice to search for jobs as most job seekers would look for them in the newspapers and online. Hot job sites include Jobs Central, Jobs DB, Recruit, St 701, Job Street and individual agencies such as Robert Walters, Recruit Express, Kelly Services and Manpower.

Writing a resume is an art. You search for samples for functional and chronological types. You can even post your resume online for free. How would tailor your resume or CV for the job that you wish to apply for?  By analysing the job description. There are some real life job description that don’t really give you an idea of what they want for the position.

My problem with my resume writing? I have read and re-read the job description of the lack thereof since they seem to want someone who is able to be quick and know web publishing techniques in addition to being a team player from what I understand. However, the description doesn’t seem to be about the job but about the personality of the person they want to hire.

I don’t know what the job entails so how am I suppose to write my resume despite my keen interest in it?

Lip-Sync Videos

Written by WishBoNe on April 14, 2008 – 5:04 pm

Having watched the dance routine mime for Torn, I realised that any other lip-sync videos found online aren’t that great. Take these 2 dorm boys doing a lip-sync for I Want It That Way by Backstreet Boys. They did it again for As Long As You Love Me.

It isn’t easy to lip-sync but when someone does the lip-sync with dance routine, you feel that those sitting and doing it with a little action isn’t impressive. These Japanese dudes did it standing up. For a group routine, check out these guys singing New Age Girl by Dead Eye Dick.
