Page Rank Explained

Written by WishBoNe on January 15, 2008 – 9:41 am

When my Page Rank (PR) dropped, I was upset. That was because I had spent months on this domain and managed to get it to PR3 after 4 months of hard work only to see it drop drastically to PR0 overnight. Total devastation.

However, there is not much I can do except not to link to link farms and those suspicious looking websites that are suspiciously looking like they are culling links to increase either Technorati ranking or Alexa ranking.

When the PR changes began, everyone was trying to figure how it worked and what to do to rectify it. How PR worked to me is a mystery despite the given equations. I get more confused even with the various examples of Page A link to Page B, etc. Perhaps with a colourful spreadsheet, this would explain Page Rank better.

The effects of the number of pages also affect PR. The equation given as below:

PR(A) = 0.25 + 0.75 (10 + PR(B) + PR(C) + PR(D))

I’m not quite sure about sub domains will cause the entire domain’s Page Rank to be affected but judging from the recent turn of events, I guess it could contribute.
