Nuffnang to Deduct Earnings Because of Advertlets
Written by WishBoNe on January 7, 2008 – 11:08 pm
While I was upset that Advertlets was redirecting my blogs automatically when it was down, I was even more upset to receive an email from Nuffnang that my blogs were under-delivery of unique visitor target. Of course it was! There wasn’t anyone able to visit my blogs because of the redirection and waiting for the DNS to be flushed with updated data! In addition, I can’t believe the “complication from renewal of domain name”.
Here’s what Nuffnang said:
We notice that your blog has been affected by the recent Advertlets’ saga where any visitors to your blog are automatically redirected to an empty parking domain as a result of Advertlets’ oversight in renewing their domain.
As a result of that, for the past 2 days up to now in which Advertlet’s website has been down, your blog did not manage to meet the promised unique visitor target for the relevant advertiser and your earnings will have to be deducted accordingly.
To prevent your earnings from being deducted any further, please remove the Advertlets’ code from your blog at least until they have restored their website again.
Thank you very much and please feel free to drop me a mail if you have any questions.
Have a great day ahead.
Best Regards,
Thanks, Nuffnang. I wonder why did I ever sign up in the first place. Oh ya, to actually try earning like ProBlogger, remember? The one in bold was by me, not inside the original email at all. In case you haven’t noticed, Nuffnang has a new exclusive deal for bloggers who use them purely. As in married to Nuffnang. I seriously don’t know if it’s even worth it. I mean, I don’t even get a chance to attend their exclusive community events despite my best efforts.
Actually hor, I don’t have much earnings to begin with and with this deduction, from whom I should get my money from to the original amount I was supposed to receive?

To err is humane. Josh (Advertlets) has even publicly apologized. It’s up to bloggers (publishers) to accept it, of course. But to have some party (Read: Nuffnang) exploits the situation & use it as a pretext to “cut your earnings accordingly”? That’s just so…lame & low & I’m glad I don’t even sign up with Nuffnang.
Err…nuffnang trying to make more bloggers pissed off at advertlets? That is a cheap blow.
from the past 2 days .. becos I keep talking about Advertlets saga .. the traffic went up 2 times .. then NuffNang will pay me double or not huh?
Just joke lah
@anon_x
Definitely a lame way.
@AK
Frankly speaking, I don’t know but I don’t think that’s the way to handle this either.
@hanneng
Ha! Maybe you should get more ads from Nuffnang now
All these 小人 antics are making this industry look very, very bad.
This must be the work of Mr Dimodi Dia. Have you guys realised that the people controlling Nuffnang are actually kids? Kids who aren’t capable of understanding payments to bloggers had nothing to do with “advertisers haven’t paid them”, especially when they themself drew up the payment method and conditions. And how many times have they tried to claim accolades by using the one liner “We-paid-you-eventhough-we-have-not-got-paid” kind of lame reason to make you feel they are the greatest person in your life ever?
Now, they have refused to accept their level of cusomer service provided are crappy and that of a mediocre standard, that is absolutely fine by us because if they want to win this bit of pathetic ego, we will just walk away.
But wait, now they have decided to take back the things they promised you in the first place. The condition of signing up with Nuffnang has suddenly being elevated into something so exclusive that you have to give up the rest of the world in order to get considered for it! Now though you had signed up with them by agreeing with any TOS or conditions rendered to you, that is no longer valid.
The new condition has been drafted and shove up your ass whether you like it or not. Inshort, all good things possible had been taken away from you. Because they deem too many adversing companies coming up and conquering a good portion of the pie(actually their business model has low entry barrier ma! How difficult to create such a company?) and they decided to throw tantrums and say “its either me or them”!
Now as these 2 owners who came from well to do families who could afford to send them overseas for studies, who could afford to give them 6 digit monies to start up this silly thing call nuffnang(timothy once said in his blog, that any business that borrows from bank are destine to fail, how much respect he gives to others?Or rather how much he looked down upon others?), what do u expect from this 2 spoilt brat who hasn’t work a day in their life prior to starting nuffnang?
These 2 of them are surely living in their own world regarding their own potential and the expectation of the world. Advertlets may had made a mistake but as sincere and earnest as they could, they are quick to repair the situation and they are in the midst of drawing up compensation packages – without anyone telling them to do so!
Ladies and gentleman, Gliterati had been thrown at you, they have shown you the door to Nuffnang or the door to the rest of the world. Your choice.
@Miss Loi
Sadly, I find it childish tactics.
@Harry
Who is Dimodi Dia? I must be out of touch with the super rich world here. Sorry.
so actually it is glitterati, gliterrati or gliteratti?
@jialat
I don’t know. I don’t care either. It’s so difficult to remember its spelling.
From the many blogs in ping, it looks like most bloggers are not willing to give up which is a good move.
@AK
It feels very Google monopoly from what I can see. The terms of Adsense are very much similar to Nuffnang, if I’m not wrong.
Cut and paste?
@AK
Could be.
Wishbone : Timothy Thia. Thats what he calls himself on the phone don’t you know? Mummy this is dimodi. Hi this is dimodi dia calling.
That is what nuffnang wanted you to think. I’m sure they’re not stupid people. They knew beforehand what sort of response glitterati would trigger.
Now when they design this new model, they have a goal in mind. They knew no one would in the world would join their glitterati club unless you’re talking about celebrity bloggers? But celebrity bloggers by default are already exclusive in payments and treatment before glitterati.
So why this glitterati. To understand the motive behind the introduction of this model, we need to observe what is the catch for them. By glancing through the letter Ming wrote. I can safely say……they did not wanted everyone to get on their exclusive list. Why? If they are sincere, surely they can come up with something better? I mean something that attracts? Not deviate right? I mean does this glitterati attracts or deviate? You know and i know.
Now why do they wanted bloggers to run away from this glitterati? To understand this bit, lets compare the difference between glitterati and a non-glitterati. By glancing through Ming’s letter, one can safely say that Glitterati and non-Glitterati are just in name. The main difference lies in the treatment from them in 2 key points – Payment and Benefits.
Now we all know from past incident that the team has some problems with regards to doing their financial equation. I mean they wanted to make money from issuing a cheque and of course they pass operating cost to others as and when they like it. And of course the famous one liner -we-pay-you-first-before-we-got-paid- kind of ego boosting comments.
Further to the fact, they have bloggers crying foul about “earning too little”. I mean have you ever come across a post about google adsense earnings too little? No, why? Because it is and must be commensurate to your traffic. So the adverts are thrown to you and you just need to maintain your traffic – the earnings are in your hand. But with nuffnang, no. The earnings can be so dubious that it can fluctuates between so wide figures that they had found a very interesting formulae to calculate your earnings – Your calculations are relevant to the past week’s traffic, not that current week you were served ads. Can you now see how dubious their financial calculations are?
I can safely say they are making so much in the last few months that they could afford several imac for each and every staff, and they could continue to treat their staff to lunch(read their blog), and he would bring staff to shop for books at MPH(all paid for by the company’s account)
The made the money by “cheating” bloggers and advertisers.
From this, we can tell their financial calculations are not very stable. It is not a surprise to see them coming up with glitterati to further supply their income by delaying payments. Because now profits to them has a new meaning. It mean that if they can delay payouts to bloggers, they can make more money. They have finally understood the meaning of cash flow.
This glitterati is mean to increase their cash flow which of course then technically means their profit increases.
We know this is a very short-sighted view of a business but these 2 who had never worked a single day in their life are crooks by nature since if they could put their own ads and upgrade themself to glitterati in their own blogs, what else they cant do?
How can they do that? Your earnings are based on your previous week traffic.
My question to Ming: Will NN top up your earnings if your blog have a sudden surge of traffic?
