Glomobi is a Cheat and Scammer

Written by WishBoNe on December 20, 2007 – 10:25 am

Misleading advertisements don’t work very well. Proclaimed to get the chance to buy something after answering an SMS correct but in fact, it doesn’t work that way. You actually get charged for every SMS received. The thing is that you are automatically subscribed to an SMS per day unless you answer more SMS received that makes you the unsuspecting subscriber and still get more charges for each message received.

Screw Glomobi. When I didn’t reply, it means you don’t have to send me any more SMS but you did it so happily because I am charged for 5 unwanted SMS from you. Each SMS cost me $2. You have now earned $10 from me. The option to stop the SMS was only given today and not during the initial part. So that’s how you cheat people of their money, huh?

Every other SMS I have received from other companies always include the option to stop in each SMS and not only after 5 SMS from them. Glomobi, you are a big cheat. Nothing but a scam with misleading/fake advertisements to let people thing that one SMS will let them buy a product at a low price when it’s actually a draw.

  1. jw Says:

I totally agree with you, SCREW GLOMOBI!

My ten year old son who as a prepaid phone saw an ad on TV. When he tried to download the ringtone he wanted he discovered that his phone didn´t support the format, so he aborted the WAP-page immediately. Some time later his mother and I became aware that his prepaid money started to run out faster than usual even if he didn´t use the phone more often. Yesterday I called the mobile operator and asked who is stealing my sons money, and guess what the reply was; GLOMOBI of course!

The thing is that in Sweden, any agreement closed with an underaged kid without parental consent is totally void. The problem is that Glomobi in Sweden can´t be reached in any other matter than if you want to terminate the subscription. Because of this i am now thinking about reporting them to the police for fraud or at least fraudulent behaviour the bastards since they have been stealing at least $5 per month since last year.

  2. WishBoNe Says:

Oh my, they sure know how to cheat people of their money but placing fraudulent advertisements!

  3. Angry Customer Of GLomobi Says:

True. It didn’t give any option to stop so what ever. I’m so annoyed by it. It sent me a SMS daily. And i have to play a total sum of $66 alone for that glomobi! Anyone know how to stop them? Or making them stop sending sms to my phone?

  4. WishBoNe Says:

    I think it’s STOP.

  5. LittleCordines Says:

  8. Another Stupid Fool That Had Been Fooled Says:

They should stop the ad immediately. Can’t we reprot to the press of this scandal?

  9. Another Stupid Fool That Had Been Fooled Says:

    Report them to the press!

  10. WishBoNe Says:

That’s provided you can prove that they are scamming people with solid proof. They have a new scam going on again too.

  11. John Says:

Glomobi was smart enough to realize that stupidity is profitable. The commercials clearly state that you will receive the txts at a certain rate until you txt stop to the originating number. This isnt a scam - there is no deception, at all, whats offered is clear. What kind of person wants to pay $1.50 for pickup lines anyway… simply stupidity, Glomobi reached its audience and it made them money. And why does a 10 year old have unmonitored and unlimited use of a cell phone. I know its not a great notion to realize that you got duped because you didnt read something, especially knowing it was something as silly as daily jokes or dating advice. Just blame yourself.

  12. someone Says:

been reporting to relevant authorities. My carrier told me that IDA,CID and other relevant authorities has been approved all premium rate services before the 3rd party or licensee can running their ads or roll out a service. Therefore,we can blame anybody, juz to remember, don’t try to subscribe if we don’t really need it..

  13. angry dude Says:

i just bought my phone i never texted any adds on it and somehow i started getting really crappy joke of the days… i had thought it was a service of my provider until the end of the month when i got a 1.25 notice. Im freaking outraged over 30bucks for that garbage >.> trying to find out from my service provider how the heck this could have happened…

  14. Mushruums Says:

i have had this problem for over a year now. they have been charging me $1.25 per day, which comes up t about $37.50 per month. i didnt know that it would keep sending it to me and as much as i try to cancel my subscription, it wont let me. they tell me to go to glomobi.com and cancel, but whenever i go to that site, it always give me some random message in swedish that doenst help me at all.

  15. That's lame Says:

truely that this isnt a scam, but think about it, the wording in the commercial is so small. according to the law, they are not suppose to do that. even if they cant show all the details clearly, they have to show at least the website in which where everyone can see and read so that everyone will able to find out more information about it. and to John, i didnt know how long u didnt been out of your house. nowadays, it is so common that a 10 years old kids holding a cellphone, not even that, they even hold a much better model than mine. i think you have to go out often to check how the social have been changing. a tip to everyone in the world, usually this kind of commerical i dont give a damn on it, cause it is 99.99% that you cant get it in such a cheap price. even if you get it, u will spend more than the usual price. so next time just try to ignore this kind of commericals and remember to keep an eye on your child.

  16. i solved the problem Says:

all you have to do is SMS “STOP” to them and they should stop

    good luck :)

  17. I spy with my eyes Says:

I was conned by another similar advertisement. Called up the telco and informed that I am not paying. They are waiting for a email reply from Sybase365. I wrote to info@ida.gov.sg to epress my unhappiness with such content providers. We should stand up to IDA and demand that they regulate the content providers with more transparency and less under-hand tactics to suck money out of innocent parties. Not sure whether the IDA is being complacent.

  20. Flaco Says:

    Totally agree with you all.
But what can i do,every message stated that cleary the charges applicable and instruction to stop the service.
I got read the weekly reminder message, they got stated to call 0321754700 from monday to friday during office hours 930am to 530pm.
My friends also kena before, but after they read the message, they all keep quiet coz they know this is their fault due to they not read the message carefully.
Lastly, i understand that we don’t have to qualification to praise or sagastic others.

I’m not help Glomobi or what, this is just my opinion. Sure i hate them.

From their side, they didn’t force us to subscribe the service. I’ve saw their advertisement. Every advertisement got stated that has RM2 charges and their website and their customer service hotline.

What we can do, just treat this is a lesson and next time think carefully or get the full information before join any service.

Glomobi still better than others,i’ve met some content provider more over, i dunno how they get my number and my fren number to broadcast their advertisement and seduce us to join the service.

  21. Flaco Says:

I’ve called to Telco and shoot them why i always receive this kind spam or rubbish.

They have teach me if i dont want to receive any broadcast message, please send OUT to the number that they send to me.

I’ve follow the instruction and it is works.

For the person who read the message,if you dont want to receive any broadcast message please kindly send OUT to the number that they send to you.

I’ve a bad lesson in my life.

  22. Winner Says:

‘Idiot’, ‘Money Sucker’ etc was what I used to scold and curse GLOMOBI last time. Without my consent, my daughter used my phone to subscribe for their services. OMG! It was 3 services all together:LOW,GET and BABY Sound. I’ve paid SGD4++.

I called to complain and asked for refund of course! They defended with their reasons:
    a. We have stated transparently the charges and how to stop the service in every SMS to you, TV advertisement, and our website.
    b. We informed you that this is an ongoing subscription until you send in ‘STOP’. This is communicated clearly in our TVC, Free Welcome Message and Weekly Reminder Message to you.
    c. It’s beyond our control if the your phone is used by others to subscribe our service.
    d. If you said your daughter is still young and don’t know anything, you are not advised to give her a phone. If you insist to give her a phone, you are advised to monitor her activities. Now is safe that she just used the phone to subscribe service and you learnt the lesson by just paying the charges incurred by her; what if she went missing because of getting a cheater as a bf through phone?

I totally can’t fight back after all. It’s true! They don’t know whether I or people close to me subscribing the service by using my phone. People can pretend he or she is me or they are permitted by me to use my phone! What can I fight back for my ignorance and carelessness if people have already informed me their existence everyday?!

The most terrible thing that shocked me is what if my daughter went missing due to I do not monitor her activities reasonably well enough?! I can’t get back my daughter by just paying money!

Of course, I don’t feel happy as I have no reason to get back my money and I was in doubt whether they are genuinely giving prize to winner. So, I checked with them all the terms and conditions and guess what? I got a SONY Vaio laptop at the end!!!

So, I think we should check probably all our belongings and check with ourselves first before blaming others….

I hope my experience brings some precautions to you guys..

    CHEERS…
