5 Reasons Why I Bought a Domain

Written by WishBoNe on November 12, 2007 – 3:02 pm

[This is an entry to Litemind's "Lists Group Writing Project".]

I know why I wanted to start my own domain. I’ve thought for a good name and searched for the domain registration. While it’s not what I wanted initially, I do like it because it means something.

  1. I want to upload plugins. I’m having too many plugins in this blog and my other blogs. A bad habit, ya.
  2. I want to upload unlimited photos. Unfortunately, I’ve been too lazy to upload any decent images to fit into my posts.
  3. I want to upload and edit the themes. So far, I’ve edited one to separate my comments from track backs. Lazy bum.
  4. I have too many interests. You can see I have at least 4 blogs here. I still have Multiply, Diaryland (that’s died as far as the updates go) and Friendster (another dead update).
  5. I want to show off my domain for my blogs. Yeah, proud of it. Not happy is it?

Having your own domain is always better. However, I’d be careful with uploading big photos, as they will make your site run slow, and your readers may become upset.

  • I recently moved from a free hosted website to my own domain and have never looked back. I have really enjoyed the flexibility of doing whatever I want with my site, but always at the same address.

Yes, since having my own domain, I’ve been having fun adding the plugins. The downside is that I find it troublesome to upgrade the WP version :P I haven’t been uploading much photos or images to this side as I’m lazy :P Besides, I can use my free accounts at Webshots and Flickr.

  • Yes, I agree it’s good to have your own domain.

One point to add is that it’s good from a personal branding perspective to have your own domain so that people can relate to you in the longer run.

Yes, it’s good branding once people recognise that the domain rings a bell when it’s mentioned.
