Review: Twitter

Written by WishBoNe on September 7, 2007 – 4:24 pm

I have been using Twitter, a lot. Basically, it’s called microblogging. Initially, as someone who plays with new toys with fervour, I started posting tweets almost every second. Kidding.

I can use it from the main site after logging and and post my thoughts, all 140 characters. Or I can use TwitterMSN (which has been down for quite a few days, probably due to constant upgrades on Twitter), TwitterMail, Facebook (which I don’t have and refuse to sign up for, yet) or fing (whatever that is). I can even send tweets via global SMS which will cost a lot or GTalk or use the Twitter Tools (which happens to be down when Twitter is doing upgrades) that Alex King has developed.

Apparently, it is always upgrading something. I don’t know what upgrades because I can’t see them. Perhaps faster response, privacy settings or something. There’s an explore function that’s new and there’s also a search box for searching the registered users (finally).

Integration with GMail does nothing for me since I don’t use it, except to read  my feeds. Those links that are on my tweets? From my feeds, obviously :D

While I was quite happy with its simple usage, I’m rather turned off by the constant upgrades that I can’t seem to see any changes besides the explore and search functions. The reply to other tweets seemed rather restricted. I can only reply to their latest tweets while the system automatically links to their latest tweets. Not that I can’t just reply but it seems awkward.

So, while I’m not totally berating Twitter, I’m sure there will be more upgrades that I hope is for better, come and join me.
