Do Blog Rankings Matter to You?

Written by WishBoNe on August 7, 2007 – 9:20 am

Anyone using ways to earn some cash online will know that certain sites will state that your site needs to have certain number of unique visitors before they will place ads in your site. Here, Daily Blog Tips tell us the disadvantages. How do you know the number of truly unique visitors if the results are culled based on cookies?

Interestingly, Google PageRank has an oddity, established and trusted sites have lower PageRanks. Now, that’s odd. I’m starting to wonder if such emphasis on rankings in Technorati, Alexa is truly a necessity. Do visitors actually care about it in the least? I know, I have an obsession with checking my blog stats but I like to know if my articles have been posted in vain or not. That post got plagiarised and yes, I’m still piffed about it.

If a site is selling stuff online, the most important thing on the minds of shoppers is security. Their PayPal, credit card details and other intimate information must be safe from intruders. Do you care a lot about how high your blog rank is in the blogosphere?

Me same too like to check my blog stats to see if anyone interested in what I posted.

Ranking to me well I only care about pagerank cos it matters to how some sites will allow me to use their service to earn some $. Other than that I dun really care about ranking of my blog. :)

Somehow, I’m always relieved to know that there are others who check their blog stats. :P Well, well, so PageRank matters when it comes to making money. I ought to do something about it.

I’m not obsessive about checking my blog stats, but seeing some stats go up is encouraging nonetheless. I am more interested in drilling down to who read what and why.

Blogging is suppose to be fun but ever since that incident, I’ve lost my interest in it.

I don’t want to be obsessed with how much money it’s bringing me, how many people are reading my entries, how to be nice so that bloggers will continue to read/support my blog.

While trying to achieve that non existant top spot, you neglect your loved ones, your work, your life and are obsessed with only your blog. Is all this worthwhile? When you pull the plug out of the computer at the end of the day, what did you achieve? Did you make the world a more peaceful place? Did you help that old lady to cross the street? Did you remember that it’s the birthday of someone who is important?

I had walked away from 2 obsession in my life, gaming and mirc. I am glad that I did it.

Back to the question, I wouldn’t CARE even if no one is reading my blog not to mention the stats/ranking. At the end of the day, I still have my life, my friends and myself.

I think I’m leaning towards why some posts are being read the most while others are not.

Often, it’s something that killed the blogging spirit. I know Gayle Goh quit blogging totally because of her personal reasons. Quite a number of bloggers have quit because of various reasons too. It’s the strongest reason that made you think about why you blog.

I blog because I love to write out my thoughts and feelings, this blog, for example is a place for me to voice out my problems that I’ve encountered and I have received comments that helped me point out what the root cause was.

Although my post was copied, it did prove that it wasn’t in vain but in the wrong way. In the end, the question goes back to why you blog. For me, it wasn’t for the ranking. It is for my love of writing.
