Written by WishBoNe on July 31, 2007 – 4:52 pm

Was wondering how the heck do I put in my tweets when Wordpress doesn’t allow any JavaScripts, thankfully, as a late adopter, it’s always a good idea to be a late adopter, there’s a plugin for it. Cool. Done by Alex King.

Here’s how to integrate Twitter into Wordpress by Lorelle. Let’s see how soon I can use the FTP to do this.

I have registered my domain name! Now, the next step is to register with Dreamhost and find some Wordpress themes to try out on a test host. Here’s the list of sites that contain Wordpress themes. Do take a look at their copyright issues and usage issues too.

I think I just overloaded myself on the themes.

When The Use Of CAPTCHAs Goes Wrong

Written by WishBoNe on July 29, 2007 – 9:36 am

Previously I wrote about managing your comments. One of it was using CAPTCHA. This, however, is taking it far too secure and hard to read. If it makes it that difficult to read in order to input, then how to verify? I have come across such sites and no longer go there because I can’t understand what they want me to input. It looked like an ‘M’ to me but it’s not, it’s actually ‘NN’. Sheesh.

How to Manage Your Comments

Written by WishBoNe on July 28, 2007 – 9:01 am

Published something that you felt was perfect to you online? Every blog has a comments section, for each post, you can turn the comments on or off, well, for Wordpress anyway. There times when comments left on your post were hurtful and totally refute your point of view. While some are pointing out their views, others may not be and try to be abusive.

You get hurt and upset because of such abusive comments and feel like closing down your blog after that. Trust me, I’ve seen a few. How do you manage your comments then? Here are 5 things you must do.

  1. Word verifications - Boy, I love them. It’s a hassle to the user but you don’t want spam comments that don’t contribute to your post at all. Now, if only this plugin can be used here.
  2. Moderate comments - Some love to market their blogs that sell things, are they helpful at all?
  3. Publish both negative and positive comments - I have done that unless they are spam.
  4. Reply to commentors - I try to if I know what to say which is often not that difficult.
  5. Payback the commentors - I visit their blogs and put my comments whenever I can.

Do read the link that I provided because there are many more tips on How to Live Online.

The Hunt For Domain Name

Written by WishBoNe on July 26, 2007 – 3:57 pm

I’ve been brainstorming for my domain name and boy, is it difficult. The one that I want is take. Even .net, .org, .com, .info, .at, .be, etc. T_T Depressing, right? I like it because it symbolises something to me. Unfortunately, got company already have it. So, I have to source for other domain names. Another way is to snatch an expiring domain name. I wonder.

Choosing the right domain name is really important because you’ll be stuck with it at least a year. Here’s the write-up on why. It’s also recommended why buying the same domain with different variations will prevent others from going to other sites than yours. The best part about Dreamhost is that it supports multiple domains. Local hosts, don’t. GAH!

My problem is that I want subdomains later and this domain will serve as a jumping board for the rest of my blogs. Now, I go see if I can go snatch some old domains.

To Continue or Not, That is The Question

Written by WishBoNe on July 26, 2007 – 8:59 am

I’ve been asked during lunch “If they are going to renew your contract, will you be continuing?” Frankly speaking, I don’t know. I’m not sure if I want to continue because I’ve been seriously thinking about my career path. I’ve been neglecting another part of me for too long. :(
Maybe I should negotiate with them if they really want to renew it.

Worthy Links for 25 Jul 2007

Written by WishBoNe on July 25, 2007 – 9:51 am

With all the hype on FaceBook, I’ve yet to register myself on it. It doesn’t seem to attract me. Not even MySpace too. Not sure why but perhaps could be due to the hype and I tend to draw away from such hypes. Just like the big hoo haa on Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows.

I’m pretty impressed that FaceBook has quite a number of applications going on like FBFactory.

I think the resistance to join MySpace could be also be due to the sex offenders on the rise. Scary. The net has provided such a useful platform for them to prowl and hunt their victims.

Now, let’s move on to something less scary, shall we? Microsoft is planning to launch a system that will rival Google Analytics, called, what else? Microsoft Analytics or so I heard. I must say, the screenshot of the graph is cool.

While most of us use social network sites, Respectance is a site that remembers the dearly departed. A moment of silence please.

With my intention still on moving to my own domain, this set of plugins for Wordpress comments will come in handy. I wonder when I will actually move. Harping about it doesn’t help, does it?
I have never used Sametime until I started this current job. The demo explains quite a number of things that goes with Lotus Notes.

And now, the announcement of PSP Slim caught my interest. I wonder if it functions the same as PSP except it’s lighter.

I’m starting to wonder if I should get a Walkman, Sony NWD-B100 Walkman. Oh, I can’t buy it even if I like to, it’s sold in Europe only. Rats.

I admit it, I’m lazy to post anything in a story because I have been spending time going through my RSS feeds. However, I do hope you’ll enjoy reading them as I had.
