Time for a review on the new handphone (Duobao 888) that I bought. I use it mainly for SMS. Nothing much but I went through the functions because it’s always a good idea to check out the functions. SMS-wise, it doesn’t rock as well as Dopod 838Pro that I’m still using.

The main menu is nearly the same as how most mobile are being placed.

I can press the keypad to navigate to the function that I want to use. That is good because it makes navigating faster.

For the most important part, the use of the text messages. You can see that SMS and Chat is provided. Haven’t tried using Chat, so I can’t comment on it.

The actual part of writing SMS can be seen the photo below.

The “#” is used for changing the writing methods between multi-tap ABC (a.k.a. T-9) and Chinese. The programming however, leaves something else to be desired because it does not change to lower case after the first character even when the previous is a full stop. For those who don’t mind, u can use the lower case multi-tap but I can’t seem to set it to a fixed input method.

The ringing sound is loud, there’s the options of using vibra and ring, vibra then ring, ring only and vibra only. This is something that Samsung, Sony Ericsson and Nokia lack. The phonebook is very simple and if the voice option is activated, the numbers will be read out in Mandarin. China-made, what did you expect?

I don’t have any high hopes for this mobile. I just hope the manufacturers would improve on it, the size is truly small and doesn’t take up much space. I haven’t taken any photos of it being compared to other handphones. Frankly speaking, I felt that I over-paid for this handphone despite it looking bright and shiny. I had problems taking photos because of the reflections of my camera on the phone surface.

You can see the rest of the album for this handphone here.

Overall, this is for calling if you hate the tiny buttons that seem to react oddly at times during SMS.
