Domino 8 Beta Refresh
Written by WishBoNe on April 30, 2007 – 2:18 pmI’m excited about R8 being released for beta in May. I’ve read the blog that Mary Beth has put up to gather feedbacks from the public. However, it seems that developers would read such a blog rather than the general user. There’s a splash page screenshot by Ed Brill here. Nicely done, I agree.
The changes are being done and they are exploring the possibility of choosing icon image for the database instead of the very old 8-bit format. Cool. The workspace had tabs which are useful but the tabs are fixed, I hated that. They are getting changed.
Mail quota is finally being added. That is way overdue. I sure hope this release would resolve the issues.

Sorry, What’s Your Occupation Again?
Written by WishBoNe on April 27, 2007 – 4:40 pmFor the uninitiated, whenever I’m asked about my occupation, I reply, Lotus Notes. The look I get is “lost”. So I try my best to explain. They understand only “oh email programme”. The next question they will ask is “not a lot of companies use it, do they?”. I won’t know in statistically but I do know that the market has expanded to include other skills because some companies integrate it with other programmes such as SQL, Crystal Reports, etc.
A final question to me would be “is the programming difficult?” Frankly speaking, I don’t know how to classify it but the best would be programming but Domino comes with its own set of codes. Not too difficult but not too easy to learn either.
I need to learn new skills and hopefully this current job will let me learn along the way.

What A Pity
Written by WishBoNe on April 27, 2007 – 10:50 amWhat a pity. I spent days to search for that perfect image to be the background of my new system only to be told that it’s best not to use it because of copyrights. I wonder if the new images from the department that requested for this system would be able to fit my new header. It’s not exactly a logo for the company, so I hope we don’t get sued. It’s tough to design nice home page because I’m not that creative.

Calendars
Written by WishBoNe on April 25, 2007 – 9:59 pm
Over the years, I’ve been enthusiastically downloading free calendars to be used, from blank planners with boxes to software downloads and online calendars, I’ve never been really satisfied. Until I started to use Chaos Software: Time & Chaos. It had served its purpose with built-in contacts database and even a backup option. However, it’s unable to take in multi-days entries, I’ve to set it from 3pm to 11.30pm and repeat it for a few days of the same time. Something that needs to be improved on. I haven’t checked if there are new versions that fixed this little annoyance.
Just today I was trying to debate with myself if I should download Firefox to install in the office computer when I saw that Sunbird is being put in the download page to use. I wonder if it’s good and have just completed the download in my own laptop. Time to install and see what it has to offer.

Outdated
Written by WishBoNe on April 25, 2007 – 10:30 amIt seems that I haven’t been keeping myself updated with the functions that can be done in views for Domino. Domino uses up on my precious RAM and I can’t bear to install trials in my laptop for fiddling purposes during my personal time.
I’m still playing around with the idea of a spare computer to run Domino.

Load Faster!
Written by WishBoNe on April 21, 2007 – 9:00 pmOnline games seem to bring out the worst in us. We scream and slam everything in our path that look like obstacles when they have nothing to do with the loading time or the lag. I found this video about a German kid screaming, laughing maniacally and slamming everything in his hands. Scary personality that brought out his worst.

Why do We Work?
Written by WishBoNe on April 20, 2007 – 9:15 pmOften, my attempts at organising gathering with friends have revolved around the text messaging and emails. All details must be stored inside before being sent out. Another round of replies to and fro before we can finally decide on a date and time.
At the same time, when the date arrives, there are last minute withdrawals and other usually-not-free pop in to join in the gathering. It used to be spontaneous until we entered the working world whereby work has to be priority number 1. It ate into over lives until our lives has to be scheduled against work and not the other way around.
Sometimes I do wonder why we work so hard but we’re unable to get away from work when it’s truly necessary to take a break from it. After so many text messages, my recent gathering had to be canceled due to unknown reasons besides the low attendance rate. Families and newborns play a part in the reduced number of gatherings too.
