Are Yahoo Answers Working?
Written by WishBoNe on February 27, 2007 – 2:22 pmI used Yahoo Answers for a short while. After using for some weeks, I realised that the objective wasn’t to answer questions but to gain more points to rise in ranks. It works the same as Gunbound, World of Warcraft, Final Fantasy series, Puzzle Pirates and many others that let you earn points as you do something virtually.
Answering any question in Yahoo Answers earns you 2 points. 10 points if your answer gets selected. A friend of mine asked me recently on whether I used Yahoo Answers and my answer was used to. I’ve stopped answering almost any questions because everyone is asking on how to get back with him/her, how to put on makeup, how to break up without hurting someone, how to get a 1st date without screwing up the initiation, how to bed a girl, how to flirt, how to two-time someone without getting caught, blah, blah. The worst were not questions seeking answers but seeking mates and one-night stands. These people ought to be in jail forever for abusing the system.
The only solution to getting your answers chosen on Yahoo Answers is to answer those ambiguous questions and not answer those asked by celebrities. For each second you type your answer on the questions, someone has already submitted theirs and yours might be in page 30 of 35. You won’t be able to find your answer because Yahoo Answers doesn’t take you to the link that displays your answers. It redirects to page 1 or 35.
My say is that it’s not working because there are nonsense written in answers or flaming in the answers. 360° seems to be working just fine even though it can’t be compared to Blogger or Wordpress. I do like the animated avatars and the colourful themes provided.

Great points, Yahoo answers is a terrible place to get advice, especially if you want scientifically based answer.
Since they added the “Top Contributor” feature the answers have gotten even worse as people automatically vote or pick answers based on so called authority. The aquarium hobby (which is where I am blown away on what passes as a best answer) has enough myths that are passed around without them being compounded and accepted as fact due to Yahoo Answers. Yahoo Answers social commenting problem of posers acting like pros giving out poor advice is bad idea. YAHOO ANSWERS; is this a good place for Aquarium or other information?

It’s because almost everyone has a Yahoo account and Yahoo has managed to link every service to the Yahoo ID, everyone loves to see their names at the top of the page.
For specific areas of queries such as scientific questions, you would be better off with sites that are scientifically based. You would get much clearer answers than at Yahoo Answers.
