What You Should Know Before Commenting

Written by WishBoNe on February 10, 2007 – 12:04 pm

Previously, I wrote about things that hinder my web experience. So far, things haven’t changed much. Now, I have no qualms about leaving comments. I do have an issue with all CAPITAL IN THE COMMENTS. It is difficult to read comments all in caps. Worst if the all the abbreviations and tech jargons are all in caps with no regards to its proper capitalisation.

Please follow these simple steps to leaving better comments.

  1. Check your CAPS LOCK for GOD’S SAKE! All caps means shouting.
  2. Put in the ocassional IMO, IMHO, BTW for some of the sentences is fine.
  3. Don’t create ur own abbrv in d cmt such dat no1 undstnd u@ all.
  4. Put in the correct punctuations. I don’t recall Wordpress limiting the number of characters here, yet.
  5. Be coherent in the comments. Process the thoughts and proof-read before clicking on “Submit” button. You would hate to put in another comment trying to correct your previous comment. It feels weird.
  6. Put in paragraphs if it’s going to be long. It’s difficult to read huge chunks of words without paragraphs. Take a look at novels. They are printed and hence the long paragraphs. Notice the book’s width and height. On the web, short paragraphs are easy to read and understand provided it’s coherent.

It would make it much easier to moderate things like spam that already take up time, thanks to Akismet, it is a lot less taxing on my side.

there should be a standard set of commenting rules, much along the lines of what you’ve written above.

The rules are more of guidelines rather than laws that must be obeyed. Unfortunately, I have come across those who want to set their standards of commenting by misleading others and leading to flames.
