Are Yahoo Answers Working?

Written by WishBoNe on February 27, 2007 – 2:22 pm

I used Yahoo Answers for a short while. After using for some weeks, I realised that the objective wasn’t to answer questions but to gain more points to rise in ranks. It works the same as Gunbound, World of Warcraft, Final Fantasy series, Puzzle Pirates and many others that let you earn points as you do something virtually.

Answering any question in Yahoo Answers earns you 2 points. 10 points if your answer gets selected. A friend of mine asked me recently on whether I used Yahoo Answers and my answer was used to. I’ve stopped answering almost any questions because everyone is asking on how to get back with him/her, how to put on makeup, how to break up without hurting someone, how to get a 1st date without screwing up the initiation, how to bed a girl, how to flirt, how to two-time someone without getting caught, blah, blah. The worst were not questions seeking answers but seeking mates and one-night stands. These people ought to be in jail forever for abusing the system.

The only solution to getting your answers chosen on Yahoo Answers is to answer those ambiguous questions and not answer those asked by celebrities. For each second you type your answer on the questions, someone has already submitted theirs and yours might be in page 30 of 35. You won’t be able to find your answer because Yahoo Answers doesn’t take you to the link that displays your answers. It redirects to page 1 or 35.

My say is that it’s not working because there are nonsense written in answers or flaming in the answers. 360° seems to be working just fine even though it can’t be compared to Blogger or Wordpress. I do like the animated avatars and the colourful themes provided.

IBM Sued for Dismissing Man Who Used Adult Chatroom

Written by WishBoNe on February 27, 2007 – 10:13 am

A man decided to sue IBM after he was dismissed for surfing adult chatroom. Did I read right? I guess anything that can be sued, will be sued. The excuse was given that he was still under “traumatic stress incurred in 1969 when he saw his best friend killed during an Army patrol in Vietnam.”

There are other ways to treat the stress rather than by visiting such chatrooms, right? If you really feel the need, maybe you’d do it at home rather than at work. It reduces the risk of losing the rice bowl.

This man also argued that “other workers with worse offences were disciplined less severely – including a couple who had sex on a desk and were transferred.” Now that everything is related to it, he sure knew how to argue his case, he was about to retire in a year, at age 56. Now, why on earth would this guy jeopardize his retirement plans? Does this lawsuit claim any pension if he wins?

Web Defacers Strike!

Written by WishBoNe on February 25, 2007 – 9:27 am

I wanted to check out the interest rates offered by NTUC Thrift today. Now, it’s hacked. I can’t even see which account to open so that I can earn some interest while the money’s in the bank. Just look at the screenshot below. I wonder if they would resolve it this week. It goes to show that the security was really weak in the firewall.

NTUC Thrift Redirected

I don’t know it was supposed to be soldier or solidear. :|

Five Curses for Spammers

Written by WishBoNe on February 24, 2007 – 4:51 pm

Darn it! My email has been mistaken for spam account it seems. Yahoo has successfully bounced my email to a friend of mine every single time. I curse the spammer who used my email account to spam others and blacklisted my authentic email account! Curse you spammer. Five things I hope will happen to you

  1. May your fingers cramp every time you your spambot is used.
  2. May you get spammed every day for all sorts of nonsense.
  3. May you get bounced mails for every spam that you send.
  4. May you get cold sweat for every thought on how to spam others.
  5. May your brain stopped working on how to code spambots every time you want to spam.

I have to go through the trouble of writing an email to Yahoo to authenticate myself. This has been written as an entry to Engtech’s Five Things. This situation came in rather handy for me to curse the spammer.

I Won WP Credits!

Written by WishBoNe on February 20, 2007 – 5:52 pm

I’ve won 15 Wordpress credits! The contest entry was this. Gosh. Anyway, it’s chosen as random, it just means that I’m so lucky to have been chosen as the random winner! :D
Link to the contest results with other bloggers. My favourites are below.

As requested, I’ve sent my information to engtech and hopefully get my credits. I haven’t decided how to use it yet, I might just store it for future use or just change one of my blogs’ CSS.

Seemingly Endless Levels on MOTAS

Written by WishBoNe on February 17, 2007 – 3:16 pm

I tried MOTAS. I like the seemingly endless levels to go on. Until now, there’re 19 levels. There’s no need to fill up the inventory because sometimes, you need 2 items to get out of the room. I can’t wait for the next levels to be released. Found the game via Lazy Laces. I’m addicted to the site. :P
I managed to complete the all the levels by using walkthroughs. Cheater, you say. It’s fun to figure out but frustrating when some of the things simply don’t work. It did take me some time even with the walkthrough for certain puzzles at some of the levels.

The real kick of completing the levels is to figure them out without resorting to walkthroughs. I’m addicted to walkthroughs. Darn it! Oh, I won’t be linking them here because I don’t want any temptations. Besides, Google can be used to look for walkthroughs.

Have fun!

Written by WishBoNe on February 16, 2007 – 12:02 pm

With Chinese New Year coming, a game related to it has been found in Lazy Laces. The song in the game is about prosperity, who doesn’t want wealth? Direct link to the game is here. The thing is, it’s G-rated :D
Have fun and a prosperous New Year!

Splogs, How to Get Rid of Them?

Written by WishBoNe on February 13, 2007 – 8:56 pm

Blogs with long posts that don’t mean anything seems to be rampant on Wordpress these days. This goes to show that Wordpress is starting to gain popularity with people with ill intent to spam. Blogspot used to be used for splogs in the past. I noticed that some blogs have been setup recently with posts promoting sites with ads all over the page.

These blogs have been setup purely to promote meaningless sites that may contain trojans and viruses. By reporting such blogs, would it help to reduce such splogs?
