Past and The Look Ahead

Written by WishBoNe on January 3, 2007 – 10:38 am

This is a light-hearted look at events that may or may not happen in the coming months. I mentioned before that blogging has overtaken my life. Well, not really. I eat, sleep and think about blog every day. I think about what to blog about here and in my other blogs. I have 4 different blogs with 4 different themes. I’m sad that a theme had been removed.

What I really wonder is that if any of our predictions for 2007 will come true. Will we be able to earn money from blogging? Will the pay be comparable to those who go to the office to work? Maybe not. Will 2007 be the end of the road for Digg? One thing I truly wonder is that will cartoonists really rule the world. The cartoons drawn on the newspapers are published daily. Some are weekly. We enjoy them because they’re light hearted and reflect our lives in a cartoonish way. Foxtrot is an example of parent’s woes with teenagers.

We had once predicted that there would be flying cars. I still see cars that run on petrol everyday. Hybrid cars are coming but the sales are not picking up yet. One of the problems could be that no one trusts the technology for such cars yet. Maybe when the success of hybrid cars comes true, the sales would be up and the cost of such cars would go down.

There maybe one thing that we have not resolved yet, that is the disposal for electrical and electronic equipment. Recycling isn’t in our bloods. The boxes or containers placed in public place doesn’t seem to entice us to properly put the glass in the glass container, plastic in the plastic container and paper in the paper container. We just dump whatever waste that’s in our hands and leave. Food don’t belong to recycling bins that says, Glass, Plastic and Papers.

By using the computer at least 8 hours a day, we’re subjecting ourselves to radiation. Oh dear, I’m addicted to blogging and now I have to worry about radiation. In addition, we have to worry about privacy when we have the mobility option; laptop. 3M has come out with the privacy filters, how nice.

I’ve also thought about my job and the career path that I have in mind. Apparently, I have zero career path in mind for IT line. I guess I thought I had wanted to do it when I was still studying electronics. However, the work took its toil on me and I found that IT wasn’t my 1st love at all. The years in school and work and some brain-washing from my parents about holding a stable job had be in a job that was just a job I was supposed to do. Not my passion. Whenever I read about this lady who has her own shop doing manicure and pedicure for others and perserving to break even the capital put in, I think about my achievements. So far, I don’t seem to have any acheivements that can be published in the news.

Life’s short and reading John Wesley’s post on Stop Wasting and Choose Your Own Talent, I realised that for the quarter of a century, I have been unhappy with my job choice. I took it up because of the stable income it brought. Well, during economic downtown, the job wasn’t stable at all. You are not appreciated even with the compensation that comes with being retrenched. No one is safe from being retrenched during the downturn.

Things have been picking up but reaching a third of the century, I have nothing to proudly say that “I have released this software and it’s selling like hotcakes!” to speak of. I am starting to automate myself. Just coming to work and resolve users problems. It’s just work.

I wonder if anyone has truly managed to stay in their passion for anything for more than 5 years and feel truly happy.
