IMs in Our Lives
Written by WishBoNe on December 6, 2006 – 3:54 pmI use MSN daily. Or try to especially when it’s difficult to use it at work. Thing is, we can use Skype because we’re assigned a Skype ID after we join the company but we can’t use MSN? Now, what’s the difference between Skype and MSN? Both allow text messages to be sent to the other party instantly, maybe this is the only common feature. I don’t know since it’s been quite a while since I last used Skype.
Back to the point where I can’t use MSN at work. The reason is that I can’t be heard on the telephone whole day and letting the rest of the world know that I’m planning what to wear for my friends’ wedding, going shopping at a certain shopping mall at a certain date and time, yadda, yadda, right? So, why are we allowed to use Skype but not MSN?
I don’t understand what the deal is with this guy who was out to discredit me. Maybe I had accidentally stepped on his tail, like telling him to take the rest of the stuff in the bottle to his desk instead of having to walk to it. The bottle happened to be in front of my boss’ desk and I’m sitting beside my boss. Anyone walking towards my boss, I’m the 1st to know, it’s distracting. Hence, my words have hurt him in front of my boss and maybe some others who could have overheard me. Maybe it’s his way of getting back at me. I don’t know.
However, I’m going off topic again. I have other instant messagers (IM) and only MSN is in use. I understand that Skype is the favourite because of its free VoIP when using PC-to-PC calling. Nice function, but I haven’t fully utilise it because none of my relatives actually know how to use it. Maybe I should start teaching my parents and them to save cost on calls especially when one of my aunt is living overseas.
It’s also interesting to note that with the spurt of users going on instant messaging, companies start to ride on this wave to get their products noticed. Good way to advertise, right? Users use Yahoo! Messenger, MSN, web-based messaging (when their companies don’t advocate such practices at work, reason being, you’re supposed to be working, right?), too many for me to know but here’s a quick overview. Can faint, right? There’s even quite a number of all-in-one IMs to choose from. Not sure if I’ll ever need them but they can be handy in future.
